Siemens Power Transmission and Distribution supplied the two onshore HVDC converter stations for the Great Belt power link (Storebælt HVDC) between Funen and Zealand in Denmark. The contract covered provision of the Fraugde and Herslev converter stations, including the main HVDC equipment and associated synchronous condensers rated at -120/180 MVar at each end. These line-commutated converter stations enable 600 MW of power transfer at 400 kV DC between the asynchronous western and eastern Danish transmission systems, improving system utilisation and market integration. The link was constructed from 2009 and commissioned in 2010, with Energinet.dk as the ordering and operating transmission system operator.
