In December 2005, following a comprehensive feasibility study completed earlier that year, Danish authorities and the newly established state-owned transmission system operator Energinet.dk decided to proceed with construction of the Great Belt Power Link (Storebælt HVDC), an HVDC interconnector linking western and eastern Denmark across the Great Belt. This final investment decision approved implementation of the approximately 58 km, 600 MW, 400 kV LCC HVDC project between the Fraugde and Herslev converter stations at an estimated capital cost of about DKK 1.29 billion, enabling detailed planning and subsequent construction to move ahead for commissioning around 2010.
