On 26 May 2025, Svenska kraftnät invited stakeholders to a supplementary written public consultation (kompletterande skriftligt samråd) on an adjusted development proposal for the route section near Östergårde in Tofta on Gotland, as part of the planned Gotlandsförbindelsen transmission connection between Oskarshamn and Gotland.
On 30 April 2025, Svenska kraftnät announced a supplementary written public consultation (“kompletterande skriftligt samråd”) for the Gotlandsförbindelsen project, inviting comments on an adjusted development proposal for the transmission corridor in the area around Lilla Homa in Stenkumla on Gotland. The additional consultation follows the main 2024 consultation, after new information led to further investigation of alternative route options near Lilla Homa.

On 21 March 2025, Svenska kraftnät confirmed selection of an investigation corridor on the Swedish mainland for the planned Gotlandsförbindelsen connection, covering the route from the landfall point on the east coast up to the Misterhult substation area in Oskarshamn municipality. This complements the earlier 12 February 2025 selection of the Gotland-side investigation corridor (recorded as the project's site_selected event). The mainland-side corridor selection narrows the route option set ahead of the supplementary public consultations and the formal concession application planned for 2026. Recorded as regulatory_other rather than a second site_selected because site_selected is a one-off project lifecycle milestone; the multi-stage corridor selection (mainland and island sides selected in separate decisions) is captured here as a regulatory milestone within the corridor-selection process. On 12 February 2025, Svenska kraftnät selected an investigation corridor on Gotland for further route development of the Gotlandsförbindelsen cable, between the Stenkumla substation and the landfall point in Gnisvärd.
On 19 December 2024, Svenska kraftnät signed an agreement for the purchase of cable to connect Gotland to the Swedish transmission grid, marking the formal contracting of a cable supplier for the Gotland Connection project and an important step towards meeting the island’s growing electricity demand.
Svenska kraftnät's signing of the Nexans cable supply contract on 19 December 2024 represents the de-facto financial commitment (FID equivalent) for the Gotland Connection (Gotlandsförbindelsen) project. As a regulated Swedish TSO project funded through the national transmission tariff and the SEK 9.8 billion Gotlandsförbindelsen budget, the project does not undergo a discrete merchant-style FID event. Instead, the irrevocable commitment of the largest single CAPEX line — 320 km of 220 kV HVAC subsea and onshore cables manufactured and installed by Nexans for delivery up to mid-2030 — is the operative financial close. This pattern is documented for other regulated TSO transmission projects (Danish Energinet LUP-funded works, German BNetzA NEP confirmations, Greek RAE Decision 611/2021) where a major contract award by the regulated operator is treated as the financial commitment milestone for status derivation purposes. The contract was confirmed by both SvK and Nexans (Nexans press release 19 Dec 2024) and aligns with the project's mid-2030 commissioning schedule. Recorded by audit:gotland_connection 2026-04-14.
On 15 October 2024, Svenska kraftnät announced that it was inviting stakeholders to a public consultation on the planned transmission network connection between Oskarshamn municipality and Gotland municipality, initiating the formal consultation phase for the Gotlandsförbindelsen project.
Svenska kraftnät conducted a myndighetsdialog (authority dialogue) to help locate routing corridors for the Gotlandsförbindelsen interconnector, starting in December 2023 and presenting the project and identified corridors to specially affected authorities. As of 9 May 2024, this authority dialogue is reported as completed and concluded, providing a basis for selecting one or more corridors for further work.
