75 MW, 123 kV three-core HVAC subsea power-from-shore cable to Goliat FPSO, total route length 105.5 km (104 km static seabed section plus 1.5 km dynamic section between platform and seabed).
ABB delivered a turnkey high-voltage AC subsea power cable system to electrify the Goliat FPSO from shore. For operator Eni Norge, ABB designed and engineered the link, manufactured a three-core 123 kV HVAC cable, and carried out offshore installation and commissioning of the 105.5 km system, comprising a 104 km static section on the seabed and a 1.5 km dynamic section suspended between the FPSO and seabed. The 75 MW shore supply now provides around half of the platform’s electrical demand, significantly reducing gas turbine use and cutting CO2 emissions by about 50%. The dynamic section incorporates an innovative corrugated metal sheath and is engineered to withstand fatigue from waves, currents and platform motion in Barents Sea conditions. ABB’s scope covered the full subsea cable package from the Norwegian grid near Hammerfest to the Goliat field.
