Installation of wind turbines at the Global Tech I offshore wind farm started in September 2013. Following earlier offshore construction works that began in 2012, Global Tech I Offshore Wind commenced erecting the first of 80 AREVA AD 5‑116 (formerly M5000‑116) turbines, each rated at 5MW, on tripod foundations in approximately 40m water depth. Heavy‑lift jack‑up vessels, including Hochtief’s Thor and units from Fred. Olsen Windcarrier and Seajacks, were deployed to transport turbine components to the site and perform offshore lifts. This marked the start of the turbine installation campaign that would build out the full 400MW array in the German Exclusive Economic Zone northwest of Bremerhaven and Emden.
