Description
Global Marine Systems acted as the offshore installation contractor for the Gjøa power-from-shore cable. Under an agreement with ABB, Global Marine replaced a previous installer and completed the marine installation of the approximately 100 km high-voltage AC submarine cable linking the Mongstad refinery area to the Gjøa floating production platform. Using the lay vessel North Ocean 102 and specialised techniques such as heave-compensated lay chutes, temporary buoyancy systems and ROV-monitored touchdown control, the company installed the heavy cable across deep water and challenging subsea terrain, managing lay tensions to avoid damage and ensuring successful completion of the route in May 2010.
