Turnkey ~100 km 90 kV HVAC power-from-shore submarine cable system from Mongstad to the Gjøa floating production platform, including static seabed section and 1.5 km dynamic section.
ABB Power Technologies executed the turnkey subsea power cable contract for the Gjøa power-from-shore project. Under a NOK 500 million award in 2007, ABB designed, manufactured and installed a single-circuit high-voltage AC submarine cable system of about 100 km route length from Statoil’s Mongstad complex on the Norwegian west coast to the Gjøa semi-submersible production platform in the North Sea. The link comprises a long static section on the seabed and a pioneering 1.5 km dynamic section connecting the seabed cable to the floating platform, engineered to withstand deep water, platform motion and fatigue over at least 35 years. ABB also provided associated high-voltage equipment on the platform, delivering up to 40 MW at around 90 kV to replace onboard gas turbine generation and significantly cut CO₂ emissions from Gjøa’s operations.
