Visser and Smit Marine Contracting (VSMC) entered into a £2 million Power Cable Maintenance Agreement (PCMA) with the Channel Islands Electricity Grid covering subsea cable repair services for Normandie 2 and the GJ1 Jersey–Guernsey interconnector. Under this agreement VSMC designed and supplied storage pans and associated handling equipment, transported and loaded spare lengths of the GJ1 cable from ABB’s Karlskrona factory to a dedicated storage facility in Dordrecht, and committed vessels and barges with defined response times and rates for future fault or damage scenarios. The arrangement created a comprehensive repair system enabling rapid mobilisation of GJ1 spare cable and marine assets, significantly improving the reliability and maintainability of the interconnector during operations.
