Guernsey Electricity completed the GJ1 replacement subsea cable between Jersey and Guernsey and had it installed and in operation by autumn 2019, restoring reliable interconnection to the European grid in time to support electricity supply over the 2019–2020 winter period. The project, delivered with main subcontractors and cable manufacturer NKT despite challenging weather and tidal conditions, allowed Guernsey to resume importing more than 90% of its electricity from sustainable sources and return the on-island power station to a back‑up role.
