In 2014, the Norwegian government pushed through a proposal to electrify all future developments on the Utsira High area, including Gina Krog, Johan Sverdrup, Edvard Grieg and Ivar Aasen, using power from shore. This policy decision defined a regional 250 MW shore-power requirement and established electrification as the development concept for these fields, providing a key early framework for the Gina Krog electrification interconnection to the onshore grid via Johan Sverdrup.
