On 10 October 2016, UK energy regulator Ofgem launched Offshore Transmission Tender Round 5 (TR5), initiating the competitive process to appoint Offshore Transmission Owners for five offshore wind farm transmission links, including the Galloper offshore wind farm. Under TR5, bidders would compete for 20‑year licences to own and operate the transmission assets, with the overall round expected to attract over GBP 2 billion of investment; for Galloper this covers the offshore substation, offshore and onshore export cables, and onshore substation that make up the Galloper OFTO.
