Hitachi Energy delivered two converter stations, one situated in Ytterby, Åland and the other in Nådendal, Finland, and two 80 kV submarine cables, each 158 km long.
Hitachi Energy received a turnkey contract from Kraftnät Åland AB to deliver the ÅL-link (Finlandskabeln), a 100 MW ±80 kV HVDC Light transmission connection between the main island of Åland and Naantali on the Finnish mainland. Under this contract Hitachi Energy engineered and supplied two onshore converter stations, located at Ytterby in Åland and Nådendal in Finland, and provided the complete HVDC Light system design. The scope also included design, manufacture and installation of two 80 kV submarine HVDC cables along the route, each 158 km long, forming a symmetrical monopole interconnector that enhances security of supply and grid stability for the Åland archipelago and enables greater integration of renewable generation. The link was commissioned in 2015.
