On 10 March 2026, the 800 MW Fenno-Skan 2 high-voltage direct current interconnector between Finnböle in Sweden and Rauma in Finland experienced an unexpected major outage. System operators Fingrid and Svenska kraftnät reported that the disturbance was due to technical faults, with a malfunction at a substation identified as the likely cause. The undersea cable section itself appeared unharmed. The operators stated there were no indications of sabotage and no involvement of police or other law enforcement agencies. A regulatory notice from Svenska kraftnät on the Nord Pool platform indicated the outage was expected to last around 18 hours, with the assessment that Fenno-Skan 2 would return to operation shortly.
