A few weeks before 14 February 2013, the Fenno-Skan 1 subsea interconnector between Finland and Sweden was returned to service after an extended outage. Finnish grid operator Fingrid reported that the cable had come back online following a four-month shutdown caused by an accident and the installation of new automation equipment. This restoration marked the re-energisation of the HVDC link and the recovery of its transmission capacity, shortly before a subsequent technical problem near the Finnish coast led to a new outage discussed in the same report.
