The Fenno-Skan 1 HVDC interconnector between Finland and Sweden suffered a fault at 04:00 local time on 27 April 2023, taking the link out of service for the cross-border power market. Fingrid published a Finnish-language notice the same morning (updated 27.4. at 08:55) confirming the disruption to the Finland-Sweden DC link and stating that intraday market restrictions tied to the outage were lifted when the connection returned to service at 08:20 the same morning. The disruption was distinct from, and shorter than, the April 2023 Fenno-Skan 2 cable trip caused by excavation work at Rauma earlier the same month. The published Fingrid notice does not specify the underlying cause of this Fenno-Skan 1 fault, but the rapid restoration within roughly four hours indicates a control-system or substation-equipment fault rather than a subsea-cable defect. Operator: Fingrid Oyj (Finnish TSO), jointly with Svenska kraftnät on the Swedish side.
