On 8 March 2024, the Finnish Environment Institute issued Finland’s official Espoo Convention response on the Eystrasalt Offshore project, noting that the planned export/interconnection cables to shore are excluded from the current licence application and EIA, and stating that a separate EIA and licence process must be established for these cables—on routes avoiding important trawl grounds—in which Finland would participate under the Espoo Convention.
