Siemens was selected in April 2020 as the preferred engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) contractor for the EuroAfrica Interconnector’s HVDC converter station in Egypt. The scope covers design, supply and construction of one onshore voltage source converter station near the Burullus power plant, which will interface the Egyptian grid with the 500 kV HVDC subsea link to Cyprus and Greece. Siemens’ responsibilities include detailed engineering of the converter, manufacture and delivery of HVDC equipment such as valves and transformers, and full installation and commissioning of the station as part of the first 1 GW phase of the 2 GW EuroAfrica Interconnector.
