In March 2018, EuroAfrica Interconnector, the promoter and developer of the planned Egypt–Cyprus–Greece HVDC subsea interconnector, signed a strategic alliance agreement with Elia Grid International (EGI), a subsidiary of Belgium’s Elia Group. The agreement establishes a formal cooperation framework between EGI and EuroAfrica Interconnector for the development and implementation of the EuroAfrica Interconnector project. This early-stage development milestone reinforces the project’s technical and strategic capabilities by bringing in the expertise of a major European transmission system operator group to support the design and realisation of the 2 GW, 1,396 km subsea cable system linking the electricity grids of Egypt, Cyprus, and Greece.
