On 29 August 2022, the Skiathos–Euboea electrical interconnection was officially inaugurated at the Skiathos High Voltage Substation, with IPTO and local officials marking the completion of this technically complex project, which includes a roughly 29 km 150 kV submarine cable and associated land works and had already been in full operation since 11 July 2022.

On 11 July 2022, IPTO energised the Skiathos–Evia 150 kV interconnection, putting it into operation and delivering the first electrical loads over the new 29 km buried submarine cable, upgraded Mantoudi substation, 30 km of overhead line and the new GIS substation on Skiathos to supply the island and the wider Northern Sporades from the mainland grid.
2022Cable Installation Complete
By 2022, Hellenic Cables had completed its turnkey scope for the Skiathos–Euboea interconnection for IPTO, including the design, manufacturing, testing, supply, installation and full protection of approximately 30 km of 150 kV submarine cable and associated land cables, connecting Skiathos via a buried subsea route at depths of around 200 m to the 150 kV national transmission system at Mandoudi in Euboea.

IPTO announced that construction works for the Skiathos–Evia 150 kV interconnection, including installation of underground and submarine cables in Evia and Skiathos and construction of a new 150/20 kV GIS substation on Skiathos, were scheduled to start in January 2020 with an implementation period of about 20 months.

IPTO selected Hellenic Cables as the turnkey cable contractor for the Skiathos–Evia electrical interconnection, awarding it responsibility for designing, manufacturing, testing, supplying, installing and protecting the 150 kV submarine and land cable system, including roughly 29–30 km of 150 kV submarine cable and associated land cables. The Hellenic Cables scope, which included burial of the submarine cable along its route and connection to the 150 kV transmission system at Mandoudi in Euboea, was successfully completed with the interconnection fully operational by July 2022.
