Operational HVDC interconnector cable of EstLink 2 requiring localized repair near the Estonian land–sea transition joint in 2024.
Following a fault detected on 26 January 2024 on the EstLink 2 interconnector near the junction between the Estonian land cable and the submarine cable, Nexans, as the original cable manufacturer, was engaged to carry out repair works. From mid‑May 2024, Nexans’ specialists undertook extensive diagnostics, located the defect in a geotechnically demanding coastal area, and executed the repair campaign. The work involved lifting the damaged section, cutting it out, testing the remaining cable to confirm integrity, and installing and jointing replacement cable to restore full transmission capability between Finland and Estonia by the end of August 2024. This engagement constituted subsea cable maintenance and fault repair services during the operational phase of EstLink 2.
