Estlink 2 FI–EE 450 kV HVDC monopole interconnector with 170 km total route (145 km subsea, ~11–12 km underground in Estonia, 14 km overhead in Finland).
Merko Infra was subcontracted by Nexans Norway AS to construct and install the EstLink 2 underground DC cable on the Estonian shore section. Working between the Püssi converter station and the coast, Merko installed pipes and ducts along the 12 km land route, pulled and jointed the main current and reverse current cables (two parallel 12 km circuits), and executed civil works including open-cut trenching, horizontal directional drilling and reinstatement. The contract also covered construction of temporary access roads and transport of heavy cable drums from the Port of Sillamäe to the work area during the 2011–2014 construction period.
