Marine cable installation for EstLink 2 was planned to start in August 2012 from the Estonian landfall at Aseri, to be carried out by Nexans Norway AS using the cable-laying vessel C/S Nexans Skagerrak in two installation campaigns running through December 2012. This programme would lay the 145 km subsea DC cable forming the core of the Finland–Estonia interconnector.
