Around 2004, the main power utilities of the Baltic states and Finland established the joint project company AS Nordic Energy Link to own and operate the EstLink 1 HVDC interconnector between Estonia and Finland. AS Nordic Energy Link was formed after Lithuanian utility Lietuvos Energija joined the project and is owned by Eesti Energia (39.9%), Latvenergo (25%), Lietuvos Energija (25%), and Finnish utilities Pohjolan Voima and Helsingin Energia together holding 10.1%.
