In 2006, the installation work for the EstLink 1 interconnector cable between the Harku converter station in Estonia and the Espoo converter station in Finland was completed, as reported by Eesti Energia. This marked the conclusion of laying both the land sections, which had begun in May 2006 at Harku, and the submarine section across the Gulf of Finland for the ±150 kV, 350 MW HVDC link.
