On 19 January 2022, Bureau Veritas (BV) was selected to undertake the project certification of Erebus, a floating offshore wind farm planned in the Celtic Sea offshore Wales. The appointment was reported by OffshoreWind.biz, which noted that BV will act as the independent certification body for Erebus. This marks a key procurement milestone for the project, as it confirms the engagement of a specialist organisation to oversee project certification activities on behalf of the developer. Erebus is described in the same set of sources as the first offshore wind farm in the Celtic Sea and Wales’ first floating offshore wind project, located around 40–44 kilometres off the Pembrokeshire coastline in water depths of up to 75 metres. Earlier and later articles on the project in the same source highlight Erebus as a 96–100 MW test and demonstration-scale floating wind farm that forms part of a wider Celtic Sea development programme. The selection of Bureau Veritas therefore fits into a broader sequence of development steps that includes site surveys, environmental assessments, and the securing of key consents and licences for the project. By confirming BV as project certifier at this stage, the Erebus team adds an additional layer of assurance around the project’s technical and design verification processes as it progresses from early development towards construction.
