On 26 August 2014, EnBW achieved a major construction milestone at the EnBW Baltic 2 offshore wind farm with the installation of the first wind turbine, described as a "premiere" for the project. The farm will host 80 Siemens SWT‑3.6‑120 turbines on monopile and jacket foundations in water depths of 23–44 metres. Components are marshalled and pre-assembled at Mukran Port in Sassnitz and transported offshore on heavy installation platforms which jack up at the site to provide a stable work base. Each turbine installation typically takes around 36 hours, involving lifting and bolting the 66 m, 256 t steel towers, mounting the 150 t nacelles with generators and gearboxes, and finally installing the rotor blades.
