EnBW Baltic 2 achieved first power on 24 April 2015, when the wind farm fed its first kilowatt-hours of electricity into the German grid. At that point, 58 of the planned 80 Siemens SWT‑3.6‑120 turbines had been installed on monopile and jacket foundations in the Baltic Sea, 32 kilometres north of Rügen. The turbines were progressively connected to the internal 33 kV array network and the offshore substation, which steps up the voltage to 150 kV before export via the Baltic 1 link to the Bentwisch substation near Rostock. This milestone marked the start of power export from the project while construction and commissioning of the remaining turbines continued towards full 288 MW operation.
