The physical installation of export cables for the EnBW Baltic 2 grid connection commenced on 20 April 2013. On that day, the vessel Aura jetted the first section of submarine power cable into the Baltic Sea seabed for the connection of Baltic 2. In total, around 60 km of submarine cable are to be laid, forming part of the link from the Baltic 2 offshore wind farm via the Baltic 1 platform to the landfall at Markgrafenheide near Rostock and onwards by land cable to the Bentwisch transformer station. Transmission system operator 50Hertz will make the network connection available once the first turbines at Baltic 2 begin feeding power into the grid.
