Offshore construction of EnBW Baltic 1, Germany’s first commercial offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea, began in July 2010. The project, developed by EnBW, comprises 21 Siemens SWT‑2.3‑93 turbines with a total capacity of 48.3 MW, located about 16 kilometres north of the Darß/Zingst peninsula and covering an area of roughly seven square kilometres. This marked the start of physical works at sea for the wind farm, including installation of foundations, turbines and associated infrastructure needed to export power to shore. The project would subsequently become a key reference for offshore wind development in Germany and form part of EnBW’s growing offshore portfolio.
