EnBW Baltic 1 reached full commercial operation on 2 May 2011, when EnBW officially inaugurated and commissioned the offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea. The project, Germany’s first commercial offshore wind farm, comprises 21 Siemens SWT‑2.3‑93 turbines with a total capacity of 48.3 MW spread over roughly 7 km², located about 16 km north of the Darß‑Zingst peninsula. Electricity from Baltic 1 is exported via 50Hertz’s Baltic 1 grid connection to the onshore substation at Bentwisch near Rostock. Since commissioning, the wind farm has been described as operational from 2 May 2011 and is capable of supplying power equivalent to around 50,000 households.
