Terna’s official project page for the Italy–Tunisia interconnection (Elmed) reports that in February 2025 Terna began works to dig up and replant over 1,700 olive trees in the Municipality of Partanna to prepare the area designated for the Elmed converter station. These site-preparation works mark the practical start of onshore construction activities for the interconnector on the Italian side, which had previously been planned to begin in 2024.
