In October 2025, Italian cable manufacturer Prysmian was selected by Terna and STEG to supply and install the high-voltage submarine power cable for the ELMED interconnector between Sicily and Tunisia. The contract, valued at up to about €460 million and to be installed by Prysmian’s cable-laying vessel Monna Lisa, covers the 220 km HVDC link (around 200 km subsea) connecting the Partanna and Mlaabi substations with 600 MW capacity and a maximum depth of roughly 800 m.
