Siemens was awarded a contract worth around €315 million by ElecLink Limited, a subsidiary of Groupe Eurotunnel, to provide the HVDC converter infrastructure for the ElecLink interconnector between Great Britain and France. Siemens’ scope covered overall system design and engineering of a 1,000 MW, ±320 kV HVDC Plus system and the supply of two onshore converter stations located at Folkestone in the UK and Peuplingues in France. The company supplied the converter valves, HVDC transformers and associated equipment, manufactured primarily at its Nuremberg facilities, and implemented the full installation and commissioning of both converter stations. Siemens’ field installation team constructed the converter stations and delivered the turnkey HVDC conversion system, which connects to the Prysmian-supplied DC cable running through the Channel Tunnel.
