By 23 August 2016, ElecLink had obtained all regulatory permissions required to build, own and operate a privately funded 1,000 MW HVDC electricity interconnector between the UK and France through the Channel Tunnel. STAR Capital noted at the sale of its 51% stake to Groupe Eurotunnel that ElecLink held the necessary authorisations, including a 25‑year regulatory exemption and permissions to act as a privately funded interconnector, as well as secured grid connections and contracts with EPC counterparties.
