On 26 May 2011, Groupe Eurotunnel and investment fund STAR Capital Partners established ElecLink as a joint-venture project company to develop an electricity interconnector between Great Britain and France. Under the joint venture, STAR Capital owned 51% and Eurotunnel 49% of ElecLink, which would install a 500 MW twin-cable DC link inside the Channel Tunnel, later developed into a 1000 MW project, as part of wider European efforts to increase interconnection capacity and optimise cross-border electricity flows.
