Ofgem, acting as the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority, approved Getlink Projects 2 Limited’s application for a Great Britain electricity interconnector licence for ElecLink 2, authorising the company to participate in the operation of a new 1,000 MW GB–France interconnector between East Kent Node B in the UK and a new substation at Port of Dunkirk/Bourbourg in France. This licence award, recorded by Ofgem and highlighted by ElecLink 2 as a key milestone, grants operational rights for the future interconnector and enables the developer to proceed with subsequent UK regulatory applications, though it does not itself authorise construction or define the regulatory revenue regime.
In September 2024, ElecLink 2, being developed by Getlink Projects 2 Limited, secured a Great Britain grid connection agreement for a new substation in the Kent area, confirming that the project has an accepted offer to connect its planned 1,000 MW interconnector to the GB transmission network.
