Nature surveys for Metsähallitus’ Edith offshore wind project in the waters off Närpiö are planned to start in summer–autumn 2024, assessing birds, zoobenthos, flow conditions and water quality in the open-sea project area and nearshore zones linked to potential electricity transmission routes; Ramboll, as Edith’s environmental consultant, will carry out these studies for use in subsequent EIA and land-use planning.
Metsähallitus has appointed Ramboll Finland as the environmental impact assessment and planning consultant for the Edith offshore wind project, making Ramboll responsible for EIA-related work, planning support, and associated environmental and field surveys under contracts awarded through public procurement procedures.
The Finnish Government adopted a resolution on 23 November 2023 to promote offshore wind power in Finnish territorial waters through a commercial competitive tendering process, providing the regulatory basis for projects such as the Edith offshore wind farm in Närpiö and laying the foundation for future offshore wind investments and infrastructure.
