The EDF1 subsea power cable interconnector between Jersey (Archirondel) and France (Surville), also referred to as part of the INGRID system, entered commercial operation in 1985. Jersey Electricity commissioned the cable that year as its first subsea power link to France, providing an operational cross-border electricity connection until it reached the end of its working life in 2012.
The EDF1 (INGRID) interconnector, a 27 km, 90 kV, 55 MW oil-filled AC submarine power cable between Archirondel, St Martin, Jersey and Saint-Rémy-des-Landes, Manche, France, was installed in 1984 for the Channel Islands Electricity Grid (CIEG), marking completion of its cable installation.
