Main construction activities for Eastern Green Link 4 (EGL4) are planned to begin in 2029. The work will be delivered by the joint venture between National Grid Electricity Transmission and SP Energy Networks and will include onshore and offshore construction to install the HVDC link between Kinghorn (Fife) and the Walpole/Anderby Creek area (Lincolnshire/Norfolk). Key supply chain appointments made in 2025 (preferred bidders for converter stations and the cable system) will support mobilisation ahead of the 2029 start. Construction will enable the laying and connection of subsea and underground HVDC cables, the build of two converter stations and associated onshore works to transmit up to 2 GW of renewable energy between Scotland and England. The start date is a planned year-based milestone pending planning consents and contract awards.
