The subsea and associated underground cable installation campaign for EGL4 is expected to commence as part of the main construction programme in 2029. National Grid Electricity Transmission and SP Energy Networks have selected preferred suppliers (including a preferred cable bidder announced in 2025) and will mobilise cable-laying contractors and specialist vessels to install the HVDC cable system along the approximately 530–646 km route between Kinghorn, Fife and the joint landfall at Anderby Creek/Walpole. The campaign will include cable lay, seabed protection where required, transition jointing at buried landfall bays, and post‑lay burial or rock protection works; timing and sequencing are subject to final contract award and marine consents.
