Aberdeenshire Council’s Infrastructure Services Committee provided verbal confirmation of planning permission in principle for the proposed Netherton Hub on 21 August 2025. The decision, following two years of development and local engagement by SSEN Transmission, covered the Hub that will host multiple assets including a 400 kV substation, a 132 kV substation, the Spittal to Peterhead HVDC converter and the proposed Eastern Green Link 3 HVDC converter station. SSEN indicated formal written confirmation and associated conditions were expected to follow.
