Fraserburgh‑based David Smith Contractors Ltd was awarded a multi‑million‑pound subcontract by principal contractor BAM Nuttall to deliver civil engineering works for the Eastern Green Link 2 HVDC converter station at Peterhead, near Boddam. The company is responsible for ground engineering and platform construction, including excavation of the site and use of locally quarried stone to create the level foundation required for the converter station buildings and associated infrastructure. The contract also extends to permanent drainage works on the site. These works form a critical part of the onshore converter station construction, enabling the 436 km subsea HVDC cable system to connect into the existing transmission network in north‑east Scotland. The package supports local employment and is scheduled to run through at least 2026.
