MYTILINEOS Energy & Metals is GE Vernova’s consortium partner on a £1 billion contract to deliver two onshore HVDC converter stations for the 2 GW Eastern Green Link 1 subsea link between Torness in Scotland and Hawthorn Pit in England. For this project, awarded by the National Grid Electricity Transmission and SP Transmission joint venture, MYTILINEOS is responsible for engineering, procurement and construction of the converter station civil works and balance of plant, as well as installation of all equipment at both sites. Together with GE Vernova, MYTILINEOS will design and construct the ±525 kV VSC converter terminals that convert between AC and DC and connect the HVDC cable into the onshore transmission network. The design phase is due to start in early 2024, with site construction commencing in 2025.
