Murphy was appointed by National Grid Electricity Transmission as one of the main works contractors on Eastern Green Link 1, responsible for the 400 kV substation works at the English end of the link. Its scope includes designing, procuring and constructing a new 400 kV GIS substation adjacent to the existing Hawthorn Pit 275 kV substation, modifying existing overhead lines to create a new connection point, and designing and building a new 400 kV cable connection between the new and existing substations. Murphy will also design and construct two new 275 kV connections and a new 400 kV GIS bay at Norton substation, together with associated onshore cable and overhead line works, to integrate the EGL1 HVDC link into the onshore transmission network.
