GE Vernova’s Grid Solutions business is consortium leader for the £1 billion contract to deliver the two onshore HVDC converter stations for the 2 GW Eastern Green Link 1 interconnector between Torness in East Lothian and Hawthorn Pit in County Durham. Under the contract awarded by the National Grid–SP Transmission joint venture, GE Vernova will design, manufacture and supply key VSC HVDC equipment, including second‑generation valves, transformers and the eLumina control system, and provide engineering for the converter stations. Working with consortium partner MYTILINEOS, GE Vernova will also participate in construction and commissioning of the converter stations, which form the terminals of the ±525 kV HVDC bipole and interface with the onshore AC transmission network. Design activities are scheduled to begin in early 2024 with construction from 2025.
