Following the UK’s exit from the European Union, the East West Interconnector’s long‑term cross‑border trading framework changed. Forward trading arrangements and Financial Transmission Rights (FTR) on the Single Electricity Market–Great Britain (SEM–GB) border ceased on 31 December 2020, the date Brexit took legal effect. As a result, EWIC no longer offers FTRs and its interconnector capacity is now made available exclusively through intraday auctions between SEM and GB, pending further direction from the SEM Committee on future cross‑border trading arrangements.
