On 20 March 2026, the draft Memorandum on Scope and Level of Detail (draft NRD) for the Dutch offshore grid connection Doordewind, which will deliver 4 GW via two 2 GW HVDC grid connections to Eemshaven, was published and opened for consultation, allowing stakeholders to submit responses until 30 April 2026 and defining the scope and methodology for the Environmental Impact Assessment that will underpin final decisions on the Doordewind 1 and 2 grid connection systems.
NextGeo’s December 16, 2024 contract announcement for the Doordewind marine route survey stated that operational geophysical and geotechnical activities would take place between the end of Q1 and Q4 2025. Their 1H 2025 results presentation lists Doordewind 1&2 Marine Route Survey (geophysical, geotechnical and UXO) as a main project in the first half of 2025, implying offshore work was underway through 2025. No sources report 2026 carryover, so it is reasonable to treat the marine geophysical survey component as completed by late Q4 2025. Using an approximate completion date in late December 2025, consistent with the stated Q4 2025 survey window.

Doordewind 2 is a planned 2,000 MW offshore HVDC grid connection that will form one of two 2 GW export links for the Doordewind wind zone in the Dutch North Sea. The link is being developed to transmit power from the Doordewind II wind farm area (part of the 4 GW Doordewind zone, located roughly ...

NextGeo’s December 16, 2024 press release on its €43 million contract with TenneT for the Doordewind marine route survey states that operational activities, including both geophysical investigations and geotechnical sampling, are scheduled between the end of Q1 and Q4 2025. Their 1H 2025 results presentation lists Doordewind 1&2 Marine Route Survey with combined geophysical, geotechnical and UXO survey scope as one of the main projects in the first half of 2025, confirming execution in 2025. No public sources indicate that the Doordewind geotechnical campaign extended into 2026, so it is reasonable to treat the geotechnical investigations as completed by late Q4 2025. I therefore use an approximate completion date in late December 2025, in line with the planned Q4 2025 window.
NextGeo was awarded a €43 million contract by TenneT for extensive geophysical and geotechnical Marine Route Survey activities for the Doordewind wind area (including Doordewind 1 & 2 grid connections), with operational activities scheduled between the end of Q1 and Q4 2025. NextGeo’s 1H 2025 results presentation lists "Doordewind 1&2" Marine Route Survey (geophysical, geotechnical and UXO survey) among its main projects in the first half of 2025, confirming that offshore survey operations had started by mid-2025. Using an approximate start date in early Q2 2025, consistent with the planned start at end-Q1 2025.
As part of a approximately EUR 43 million contract from TenneT, NextGeo is scheduled to begin geotechnical survey activities for the Doordewind offshore grid connections, including Doordewind 2, around the end of the first quarter of 2025. These works will form part of a broader Marine Route Survey campaign supporting the design of the export cable systems between the Doordewind zone and Eemshaven.
By 18 December 2024, TenneT had awarded NextGeo a contract worth approximately €43 million for extensive offshore and nearshore geophysical and geotechnical survey activities in the Dutch Exclusive Economic Zone for the Doordewind wind area, including the cable connections for the 2 GW Doordewind 2 grid connection to Eemshaven. The scope covers a Marine Route Survey over more than 21,000 hectares to support detailed design of the export cable routes that will transmit power from the Doordewind zone to the onshore grid, with operations scheduled between late Q1 and Q4 2025.
In approximately October 2024, TenneT awarded NjordIC the UXO Consultancy Services Contract for the Doordewind 1 & 2 Grid Connection System, which includes the 2 GW Doordewind 2 offshore grid link. NjordIC will act as independent UXO consultant and CS-OOO A-scope holder for the approximately 112-kilometre offshore and 14-kilometre Wadden Sea export cable route, providing survey preparation, supervision and quality control of UXO surveys, geophysical data analysis, and delivery of Master Target Lists to enable safe cable installation ahead of 31 December 2026 deadlines.
On 5 May 2023, TenneT awarded NKT contracts under its 2 GW programme to deliver 525 kV HVDC cable systems for several offshore grid connections, including the Doordewind 2 export link landing at Eemshaven in the Netherlands. Under these contracts, NKT will design, engineer, manufacture, and install the onshore, nearshore, and offshore cable system for Doordewind 2 as part of a multi-year framework covering ten cable systems and approximately €5.5 billion of work, with around €1.5 billion allocated across Nederwiek 3 and Doordewind 1 & 2.
On 20 April 2023, TenneT signed the framework agreement with the Hitachi Energy/Petrofac consortium. Doordewind 2 (Eemshaven) is one of six projects covered.
