The offshore construction phase for the DolWin3 grid connection is planned to begin with the installation of the DolWin gamma HVDC converter platform in the German North Sea in 2017. Built by Nordic Yards for TenneT under Alstom’s (now GE Vernova’s) general contract, the platform will be installed offshore to convert up to 900 MW of AC power from connected wind farms to DC and transmit it via a 162 km sea and land cable link to the onshore converter station at Dörpen, where it will be converted back to AC and fed into TenneT’s transmission grid.
