In autumn 2023, the Dogger Bank D project team led by SSE Renewables and Equinor carried out a non‑statutory public consultation on an option to direct power from the proposed offshore wind farm into green hydrogen production at a dedicated onshore facility, alongside plans for a conventional electrical transmission connection. This hydrogen production option, which had been publicly consulted on, was later retired from the project following confirmation of a grid connection to the planned Birkhill Wood substation in East Riding of Yorkshire.
