In February 2024, the National Energy System Operator (NESO) confirmed Birkhill Wood, a planned 400 kV National Grid Electricity Transmission substation in East Riding of Yorkshire, as the grid connection point for the Dogger Bank D offshore wind project. SSE Renewables and Equinor, as project developers, have since focused development on this electrical transmission system connection, retiring earlier hydrogen offtake options and progressing site selection for onshore cable corridors and associated infrastructure to connect the wind farm to Birkhill Wood.
